BJP’s manifesto for J-K assembly polls to stick to Article 370 stand

New Delhi, Nov 16(Hindustan Times): The BJP has decided to include the repealing of Article 370 of the Constitution that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir in its poll manifesto for the northern state, ignoring voices of dissent within the party.

Several BJP poll candidates from Kashmir have opposed the party’s stand on the sensitive issue with its pick from Srinagar’s Amira Kadal constituency Hina Bhat saying she would be the first to pick up a gun if Article 370 was abrogated.

“If the Article is touched, it will force Kashmiris to pick up guns again. And you know I am a Kashmiri too,” she had reportedly said.

Party candidate from Homeshalibugh in Anantnag district Ghulam Nabi Dar had also allegedly said he would allow no one to “play” with the Article.

The state is headed for five-phase polls, beginning on November 25, with the BJP looking to expand its footprint into the Muslim-dominated Kashmir Valley as part of its mission to secure a majority in the 87-member-strong assembly.

The saffron party’s hardened stance may have an adverse impact on its electoral prospects in the Valley but is expected to pay rich dividends in the Hindu-majority Jammu region.

The controversial Article 370 ensures the state’s residents live under a separate set of laws as compared to other states, including those related to citizenship, ownership of property and fundamental rights. The provision also stipulates that citizens from other states cannot purchase land or property in Jammu and Kashmir.

A demand for removing the sensitive clause has been a part of the BJP’s manifesto for decades now and party leaders feel any move to dilute its stand will antagonize its vote base outside the Valley.

“This has been an important agenda of our manifesto and will remain so. We want to discuss whether this article has benefited the state or just a few families only,” party’s J&K spokesman Khalid Jehangir told HT.

Minister of state in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh also said the BJP’s stand on Article 370 was “very clear”.

“All issues, including Article 370, which have been part of the BJP manifesto all these years, will be part of the agenda in the state,” he told reporters in Jammu earlier this week.

In its Lok Sabha poll manifesto, the BJP had reiterated its stand on Article 370, saying it would discuss the issue with all stakeholders and remained committed to the abrogation of the clause.

Minister of state for external affairs VK Singh, however, took a conflicting stand, in an attempt to woo voters in Kashmir. “BJP never said Article 370 is to be removed or amended,” he said in Srinagar on Saturday.

“Article 370 got introduced somewhere because people kept asking about it. And I think all that the party said was that we need to re-look at all things that unnecessarily create problems,” he said.

Hindu community was and now divided in to cast, creed, gender inequality , Koti Koti Pranama, good time, bad time good luck, bad luck, etc, So a small group of invaders were able to dominate them from the beginning of time. United India never had a Hindu emperor or ruler. Most of India was ruled by Buddhists rulers, Muslim rulers & Europeans . Hindu community never able to unite India in to one Nation. Present India was united and developed by British with diplomatic skills & defeating hundreds of smaller local Tugs, merciless landlords (rulers) like navabs, Shah’s nizams, sultans, small maharajas, Arasas etc. As per the written Independence agreement between So called Indian Independent leaders and British, ONLY Hindu majority regions of Geographical India was allotted to present Republic India. As per same written agreement between Indian leaders and British rulers Muslim majority geographical India is not belong to India. Thanks for British Educated first Indian Prime minister for diplomatically & skillfully signing Article 370 and getting muslim majority Kashmir to present India. (Once a agreement is made one should honor it)

Kashmir problem is gift given to Indians by Nehru. When signing the agreement with Raja Hari Singh to join Kashmir with India, Nehru mentioned in the agreement that " Indians will respect the opinion & emotions of Kashmiri people"!!!!!!. Pakistan is asking the same question " whether India is asked the opinion of Kashmiri people till now??????. Again Nehru made shekh Abdulla Prime Minister of Kashmir within India!!!!. Nehru/Gandhi family never went against Abulla family of Kasmir!!!!!. Reason most of Indians know!!!!!

There were many U turns in Black money, Aadhar, fuel price hike etc.

BUT about Article 370, BJP reiterates that it has been part of the BJP manifesto for years.
IT WILL be part of the agenda in the state for J-K assembly polls.

Article 370 and residency laws perpetuate not only Muslim Majority but also an environment that provides support to terrorism. This means that Army needs to be there. Once Army is there again it leads to further abnormality in situation leading to greater support to terrorism. Repealing 370 and residency laws will be like slicing off the Gordian Knot that is vicious cycle of violence. Having said that alternative would be to discover "K P S Gill" for J&K, who can head a police that is upto the challenge.

Article 370 was a creation by Nehru to appease the Abdullahs in Valley region..Later on continued by Indira, yet again to appease the muslim population...How can two regions under a single state have seperate laws?

Appeasement has been the single most agenda of previous Congress, NC combine in the state, but this time pose a very serious challenge from the BJP..It is very courageous on part of BJP leaders to keep the contentious issue of repealing article 370 active & yet challenge other political formations in the muslim dominated state!

If there were no preferential laws, the oppressed people would have continued to eat left over from people like you. To bring people to the main stream and to ensure inclusive growth and justice for all preferential laws are very much essential. The post independence policy makers were not stupid and sectarian minded like you and the current rulers. Does it looks hilarious to you? The problem is BJP makes blah blah and bravado on certain things before elections and does a quite 360 degree turn once in power.Purely Bundle baz party.
