Beltangady, Nov 9: The Venur police have arrested two persons of Chikmagalur district for illegal possession of deer pelt at Aladangadi near here on Wednesday November 9.

The arrested have been identified as Usman (23), son of Moideen of Neelkantyar of Kalasa near Moodigere and Keshav (22), son of Vasudev Nadlu of Thotadappalu village in Moodigere taluk.

They were coming towards Beltangady from Moodigere via Bajagoli when police caught them.. The police were on their usual patrol Aladangady in the early hours of Wednesdays when both of them arrived in a bike.  As usual the police asked them to stop the bike.  But they spade up without stopping the bike.  At this point police chased them and managed to catch them within a short time.

When the police checked the bike, they found dry deer pelt under the seat rexine.  The pelt was identified as the pelt of schedule III dear which cannot be killed under the Wildlife Protection Act.  So both the accused were arrested and presented before the court which in turn remanded them for 14 days judicial custody.
