Chennai, Nov 9: A 45-year-old man, who was carrying a sharp instrument, rammed his two-wheeler into the main gate of the Poes Garden residence of AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa on Wednesday.

He was arrested later, police said.

The incident occurred around 12.30 pm, when Jayalalithaa was not at the residence, police said.

The man, Karthik Joshua of Thandalam in suburban Poonamallee, suddenly rammed his scooter into the gate.

When policemen and public rushed to nab him, he threatened them with a sharp instrument and fled the scene in a four wheeler parked near the gate after threatening the driver of the vehicle, police said.

He left the two-wheeler behind, police said.

A police patrolling unit was immediately informed and later the man was nabbed, police said adding that he appeared to be "mentally unsound".
