No ID at night can land you in police custody

Jaipur, Nov 13 (IANS): Roaming late in the night without proof of identification can land you in a police station in Rajasthan's Dausa district.

Police in the district, over 60 km from here, have made it mandatory for people on the streets after 11 p.m. to carry an identification proof.

"The aim is not to harass the general public but to check movement of suspicious elements and to curb crimes," Dausa Superintendent of Police Anshuman Bhomia told IANS over phone Thursday.

If anyone is found roaming after 11 p.m. without ID proof, he or she will have to spend a night in a police station, or will have to prove his/her credentials.

Police also plan to record the late night movement of vehicles in the area.
