India ruled by an angry people: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Nov 13 (IANS): India is being ruled by people who are "angry" and the Congress was the only party which can take the country forward through love and brotherhood, party vice president Rahul Gandhi said here Thursday.

"This is the only country which won its war of independence with love. Today India is ruled by people who are angry," Gandhi said, addressing the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Jawaharlal Nehru, Independent India's first prime minister.

"Whatever this country has done in the last 60-70 years, the basis of all this is nothing but love and brotherhood. This organisation has been built on that thought," he said.

The Congress vice president said: "Today, there are attempts to divide us and the country."

"Only Congress can fight these people as it is an organisation for love and brotherhood," he added.

Gandhi admitted that the party had made some mistakes but said that the Congress has never swayed from its ideology.

He said that once more this country would be taken ahead by the Congress.

Keen to resurrect Jawaharlal Nehru's legacy at a trying time for the party and take the message to the masses, the Congress is organising an international conference Nov 17-18 to mark his 125th birth anniversary.

The party, however, has not invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharartiya Janata Party for the event to be held at Vigyan Bhavan here.
