Ramallah, Nov 11 (IANS): A Palestinian man was killed Tuesday in a clash with Israeli soldiers near al-Aroub refugee camp north of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, medics said.
Emergency crew at the city's al-Mizan Hospital said that Emad Jawabreh, 21, died of his wounds sustained earlier Tuesday after he was shot in the chest by Israeli soldiers, Xinhua reported.
Witnesses said the clash broke out when dozens of young Palestinian men threw rocks at the soldiers who responded by firing tear gas and live ammunition.
The hospital said that another Palestinian man was injured in a clash with Israeli troops. Israeli media reported that the young man was taken by an Israeli ambulance to an Israeli hospital for treatment.
The incident came amidst a wave of violence stoked by tensions over the access to a holy site in Jerusalem, known to Jews as the Temple Mount and Muslims as Harem al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary).
On Monday evening, an Islamic Jihad member and former prisoner in Israeli jails from Hebron stabbed to death an Israeli woman and wounded two other males north of Hebron. He was then shot and critically wounded.
