Peruvian journalist killed during robbery

Lima, Nov 11 (IANS/EFE): Peruvian journalist Fernando Raymondi, 22, has been murdered by assailants who tried to rob his father's store in the city of San Vicente de Cañete, media reported.

Raymondi, who worked in the research section of the political magazine Caretas, was shot in the chest Sunday when he recognised one of the robbers.

A special police homicide department squad has been sent from Lima to investigate the case.

Raymondi finished his course at a private university in Lima and joined the magazine a few months ago, after which he started working in the research section, Caretas said on its website.

The magazine added that he had great potential and had covered stories including an interview of a congressman who had rented his house to a Mexican drug trafficking gang lieutenant and a violent eviction that resulted in the death of the owner at the hands of the police.
