Kabul, Nov 11 (IANS): At least 10 militants were killed overnight after Afghan army helicopters carried out an airstrike in Kunduz province, an official said Tuesday.

"The Afghan National Army helicopters fired two missiles in Wardak Ha area of Dasht-e-Archi district late Monday night," the official told Xinhua.

The targeted militants, numbering 15 to 20, tried to launch an attack on security checkpoints at midnight, the official said, adding that many foreign militants were among the victims.

In a separate development, the Afghan security forces killed a senior Taliban leader named Mawlawi Mohammad Karim along with an insurgent during an operation in Jawzjan province Monday night.
