Eleven crude bombs found in Madurai


Chennai, Nov 10 (IANS): Tamil Nadu Police Monday recovered 11 country-made bombs from a garbage bin in the temple town of Madurai, 510 km from here.

"Around 4 p.m. the police got information about the bombs in the garbage bin. They were country-made bombs containing chemicals used in making fire crackers," a police official told IANS over phone from Madurai.

He said these were not improvised explosive devices (IED).

The bomb squad was despatched to Annanagar in the city where the garbage bin was located.

According to police such country bombs are normally used by rowdy elements.

Police said investigation is on about the person(s) who could have dumped the bombs in the garbage bin, and the reasons for that.
