SC declines to entertain plea for renaming India

New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS): The Supreme Court Monday declined to entertain a plea seeking to rename India as Bharat and asked the petitioner to approach an appropriate authority with its plea.

The apex court bench headed by Chief Justice H.L. Dattu asked the petitioner to first make an appropriate representation before an authority in support of his plea.

The court said that the petitioner can approach it only after making a representation and getting response to it.

"You (the petitioner) can come to us only after the authorities have responded to your representation or choose not to response," the court said.

Having said this, the court dismissed the plea as withdrawn.

Kuch logon ko Ungli karne ki Aadath si wo ghayee hai.

I think supreme court should pass as judgement notifying "No name change" whatsoever it may be, unless the existing name is having bad effect on society or affecting the progress of our country. Let him work / assist in settling country's many outstanding issues. It is very unfortunate that our leaders are very narrow visioned working for self, even when it comes to charity. Some do charity not as a social responsibility rather gain something out of it.

Name changing becoming a disease now. How it is going to benefit to a common man if the nation is called Bharat instead of India? This person should have done some useful work for the public and that would have been appreciated by all.
