China-made power tillers seized in Tripura

Agartala, Nov 9 (IANS): Four power tillers and a huge quantity of spare parts, all made in China, were seized from a house of a former senior government official in Tripura, official said Sunday.

The Border Security Force, Customs, Tripura Police and western district administration in a joint raid recovered China-made power tillers and spare parts of agricultural machineries from the house of Adul Haque at Joynagar on the outskirts of Agartala. He was the director of the Tripura agriculture department.

Acting on a tip-off, Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das led the three-hour-long raid.

"The value of the seized goods would be over Rs.20 lakh. The power tillers and the spare parts have been illegally procured from China through Bangladesh by a trader, Abu Salim Mia," Das told IANS.

Das said Haque claimed that he had rented a room of his house to Mia and was not aware about the illegal procurement of the Chinese goods.

Businessman Mia is now missing and believed to be on the run.
