Udupi, Nov 3: Police led by ASP Sathish Kumar confiscated a number of mobile phones, SIM cards of various service providers, drugs and other materials from undertrials in the sub-jail here on Thursday November 2.

The raid was conducted after receiving complaints from certain persons that they were getting threatening calls from undertrials through phone.  The complaints were registered with DC Ponnuraj who in turn ordered for a raid.

During the raid it was found out that the undertrials were continuously using mobiles, drugs and even alcohol.  Along with electronic gadgets even bottles of alcohol too was confiscated from the prisoners.  The complete list of the confiscated things is not yet done, but it would be prepared shortly and an enquiry will be initiated to find out as how these things reached the undertrials.

Meanwhile certain sources said that show-cause notices were already issued against deputy tahsildar who is also the superintendent of the sub-jail, warden and 4 constables in this regard.

Karkala ASP Laburam, inspectors of various police stations were present during the raid.
