Four Naga insurgents killed in Assam


Guwahati, Nov 5 (IANS): Four cadres of Naga insurgent group NSCN-IM have been killed in Assam during joint operations by security forces, an official said Wednesday.

The first operation took place Monday night near Kopilo village in Dima Hasao district, which is also a tri-junction of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, defence ministry spokesperson Lt. Col. Suneet Newton said.

The joint operation by the paramilitary Assam Rifles and Assam Police resulted in the killing of one cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) and injuries to two others.

The second operation was launched Tuesday night in Robi Basti village, four km from Dima Hasao district headquarters Haflong, he said.

Three more NSCN-IM cadres were killed in the operation in the early hours of Wednesday.

Three AK-series rifles, a rifle, a hand grenade and 173 rounds of ammunition were seized during the two operations, the spokesman said.
