Jordan recalls envoy to Israel over mosque violations

Amman, Nov 5 (IANS): Jordan Wednesday recalled its ambassador in Israel in protest against tensions and violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque, media reported.

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour ordered the recall of the ambassador for consultations due to repeated violations by Israel against the mosque and worshippers, Xinhua reported citing state-run Petra news agency.

Ensour also ordered filing an official complaint against Israel with the UN Security Council.

Jordan, which in 1994 signed a peace treaty with Israel, warned last week that the treaty was under serious threat after Israel temporarily closed the mosque along with other holy sites in Jerusalem.
