Hamas slams Palestinian president, terms him new 'Pharaoh'

Gaza, Nov 5 (IANS): The Islamic Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, unprecedentedly and largely slammed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Wednesday for not caring enough for the Gaza Strip.

Hamas politbureau member Khalil al-Hayyah accused Abbas, Israel and the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) of getting in the way and delaying the process of reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, Xinhua reported.

"Abbas is a new Pharaoh who does not accept partnership with anyone," said al-Hayya during a panel discussion with politicians in central Gaza Strip.

On Oct 12, international donors met in a conference held in Cairo to donate for reconstruction in the Gaza Strip. The two-day donors' conference pledged $5.4 billion for reconstruction.

"Mahmoud Abbas sent his delegations to the donors' countries, which pledged donations for reconstructing the Gaza Strip and he demands them to pay part of their donations to the budget of his authority," said al-Hayya.

On July 8, Israel launched a large-scale air and ground military operation on the Gaza Strip and its Hamas-led militant groups, which lasted for 50 days and left 2,150 Palestinians and 70 Israelis dead and more than 11,000 wounded.

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the Hamas movement's armed wing, said Wednesday that it has prepared and equipped itself for another bigger gun-battle with Israel.

"We prepare and equip for a bigger victory than the victory in the last battle through an upcoming battle that will be the toughest and the hardest in the history of the Zionist enemy," the group said in an emailed press statement.

Tension in Jerusalem old city between the Palestinians and the Israeli security forces has been growing due to attempts by extremists to break into the yard of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram Al-Sharif in the old city.

"There is no place for Israel in this world. Al-Aqsa Mosque needs more popular, political and resisting effort and Israel should know that touching Al-Aqsa mosque will offset their blood," said al-Hayya.
