Mangalore, Nov 1: The district will get 132 libraries by the end of the month, assured zilla panchayat president Mamata D S Gatti at a press meet here on Tuesday October 31.

The libraries will be setup following a directive from the state government to have a library in each village. Already, there are 68 gram panchayat libraries in the district.

She also said that each library will have a supervisor who will be selected on the basis of the roaster system and preference for the post will be given to 'preraks' of the continual education project. Each supervisor will be given Rs 1000 as honorarium, she added.

The zilla panchayat has already received Rs 9,82,500 for this purpose. Each of the libraries will be given Rs 400 for getting newspapers and magazines and Rs 500 for other expenses every year.

As part of Suvarna Karnataka, libraries will be also set up in the four neighbouring taluks which will be named 'Suvarna Karnataka Gadi Gram Panchayat Granthalaya' and will have special books about the history and culture of the state.

Among those present at the press meet were zilla panchayat CEO A M Kunjappa and chief librarian S M Bhairanatti.
