Telangana signs MoU to buy 1,000 MW from Chhattisgarh

Hyderabad, Nov 3 (IANS): Telangana Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chhattisgarh for purchasing 1,000 Megawatt electricity.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his Chhattisgarh counterpart signed the MoU in Raipur.

Rao thanked Raman Singh for agreeing to sell power to Telangana. He said the move would help the state to tide over acute electricity shortage.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, recalled the historic and friendly relations between the two states.

The newly formed state is reeling under acute electricity crisis, badly hitting agriculture and industry.

KCR is blaming neighbouring Andhra Pradesh for the crisis, saying Telangana is being denied 54 percent share in electricity as per Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

The TRS chief has also accused his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu of creating hurdles in Telangana's efforts to tide over the shortage by generating power at Srisailam project across Krishna River.
