UP appoints officers to expedite pending court cases

Lucknow, Oct 31 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government has asked officials to expedite thousands of cases pending in different courts, officials said Friday.

It has done so by asking divisional commissioners and district magistrates to direct district level nodal officers to contact district judges on a daily basis and to provide the list of cases to be taken up.

Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan has said this needs to be done promptly so that cases pending for many years could be disposed of.

He said that National Mega Lok Adalat was being organised, extending down to tehsil level in order to provide justice to poor people.

As far as possible, efforts should be made to nominate additional district magistrates as nodal officers for successful implementation of the National Mega Lok Adalat, he added.

The Chief Secretary also held a video conference with officials Thursday, asking them to provide the list of identified pending cases to the concerned district judge and the state legal services authority Nov 1, 11 and 21.
