Delhi LG to explore government formation options

New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS): A day after the Supreme Court said that the BJP-led central government was not sincere in ensuring a new government in Delhi, Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung's office issued a communique Wednesday that he would explore all options for establishing a popular government in a few days.

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, like on earlier occasions, called Jung "a BJP agent" and said his move was intended to "bypass the hearing in the Supreme Court Thursday."

The Supreme Court is hearing the petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which has demanded fresh elections to the Delhi assembly.

"In view of the President's approval to explore the possibility of installing a popular government in Delhi, Najeeb Jung would be exploring the possibility with the leaders of all political parties over the next few days," the statement issued from LG House said Wednesday.

Sources in Raj Bhavan confirmed to IANS that Jung met Home Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday evening, but refused to divulge what transpired at the meeting.

Reacting to Jung's communique, Kejriwal said: "On BJP's instruction, he is delaying. Earlier, he said he would call BJP and now he is saying he will invite all-party meeting."

"They basically want to bypass the SC hearing," he said.

"We demand that the LG should call all-party meeting today (Wednesday) itself, take final decision by evening and inform the Supreme Court tomorrow accordingly," Kejriwal added.

Meanwhile, sources in the BJP told IANS that the party was ready for fresh polls.

"Results in Haryana and Maharashtra polls have boosted our confidence. We will win Delhi too," a party source told IANS.
