New Delhi, Oct 29 (Agencies) : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday hit out at Lt Governor Najeeb Jung for saying that he would explore the possibility of installing a popular government in Delhi in the next few days.

Kejriwal questioned Jung's intention and asked whether the Lt Governor would seek for an adjournment in Supreme Court tomorrow.

The AAP chief's comments came after the LG House today issued a statement saying that "In view of the president's approval to explore the possibility of installing a popular government in Delhi, Najeeb Jung would be exploring the possibility with the leaders of all political parties over the next few days."

Here's what Kejriwal said:

Kejriwal demanded the Lt Governor should call an all party meeting today and take a final decision by evening and inform the apex court tomorrow.

"It is unfortunate that LG is in active collusion with BJP and running the backdoor government for the BJP and acting as an agent of it rather than protecting the Constitution of India.

"We are in a democratic country and there should be a people's government and elected government and LG should be trying his level best to have the elected government. Under BJP's instruction, he is constantly delaying everything," Kejriwal said.

The AAP national convener also accused LG of doing nothing in the last eight months to end political deadlock in the national capital.

The SC on Tuesday rapped the BJP government at the Centre over its tactics to delay government formation in the capital which has been under President's Rule since Feb 17.

The top court expressed its displeasure at the central government's delaying formation of a government in Delhi, even as it was told that President Pranab Mukherjee has given consent to invite the BJP for the purpose.

"Just before every date of the hearing, some statement is made about the attempt being made for the formation of a government but why things are not being done well before the date of the hearing?" asked the constitution bench of Chief Justice HL Dattu, Justice H Chelameswar, Justice A K Sikri, Justice RK Agrawal and Justice Arun Mishra.

"Is it such a big issue for the Lt. Governor to take so much time to decide whether to do or not to do (a thing)," the court said, as it was told the president has okayed Lt. Governor's Najeeb Jung's suggestion to explore the option of forming the government by inviting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the single largest party in the assembly.

"Suppose Lt. Governor is going to invite the largest party (BJP). Are they in a position to form the government?" the court enquired, apparently making a reference to the number of legislators the BJP has.

Currently, BJP, along with ally Akali Dal's lone MLA, has 29 legislators and will require the support of five more MLAs to prove majority in the Assembly.

The last government led by Arvind Kejriwal had resigned on 14 February after the party's pet project, the Jan Lokpal Bill, could not be passed due to opposition from BJP and Congress.

President's Rule was imposed in Delhi on February 17.
