High ranking Chinese military officer confesses to taking bribes


Beijing, Oct 28 (IANS): Xu Caihou, former vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, has confessed to taking bribes, military prosecutors said here Tuesday.

Military prosecutors have finished investigation into Xu's graft case and started the procedure to file the case, Xinhua reported citing a statement from the military procuratorate.

Xu was also expelled from the Communist Party of China and discharged from military service with his rank as general revoked.

Xu was found taking advantage of his position to assist the promotion of other people, accepting huge amounts of bribe money personally and through his family.

He was also found to have sought profits for others in exchange for bribes taken through his family members. The amount of bribe was "extremely huge", the statement said.
