Chhath Puja to be public holiday in Delhi


New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS): Chhath Puja Wednesday will be a public holiday in Delhi, the government announced Tuesday.

The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung through a notification.

Accordingly, all government offices of the Delhi government will be closed Wednesday.

On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party urged Delhi Chief Secretary D.M. Spolia to declare Chhath Puja as a public holiday.

Chhath Puja is celebrated in a major way in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. People from the region total around four million in Delhi.
