UP mulls allotting Allahabad land to Maruti, Fortis, Amity

Lucknow, Oct 17 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government Friday announced that it was considering allotting land to healthcare major Fortis, the Amity group for education and leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki at an integrated industrial township coming up in Allahabad.

A state university has been planned in the township on an area of 40 acres at a level next to the existing NIT and IIIT with focus on emerging technologies like bio-tech, nano-technology and design.

With regard to the township, a meeting was held in the state capital Friday where a detailed presentation on the plan layout of the proposed township was made.

"It is planned to be developed on around 1,200 acres of land with world-class infrastructure catering to all needs of industries and residents. It was decided that the access-controlled township will have 4G network and full WiFi connectivity with homogeneity of design for all building structures," officials elaborated.

An open air theatre along with plaza and exhibition centre have been proposed to be constructed at the heart of the master plan. Directions were issued to the higher education department to put up a concrete proposal within a month for development of new university in 40 acres of land. The university building has been envisioned to be an energy-efficient, green signature building with unique character of its own.

Sanjiv Saran, principal secretary, Industrial Development, informed that around 25 percent area of the township would be reserved for industries. "Dedicated power supply, prepaid electricity meters, provision for 100 per cent water harvesting, zero-discharge mechanism, CNG supply network are some of the main features planned to develop it as a smart self-sufficient working and residential place, he added.

Explaining the concept of new integrated industrial township, UPSIDC managing director Manoj Singh said the design of the new township was based on the pattern of Sangam -- the convergence and unity with ample area demarcated for industries and institutions.

He said UPSIDC would take up the development of infrastructure facilities in the new integrated industrial township for which transfer of land to UPSIDC was being expedited.
