Abbott opens new manufacturing plant


New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS): Health-care major Abbott Wednesday opened its new greenfield nutrition manufacturing plant in Jhagadia, Gujarat, which has come up with an investment of Rs.450 crore ($75 million).

"We believe that our ongoing commitment represents an investment in a healthier India by providing high-quality nutritional products that will meet the health needs of local consumers," said John Landgraf, executive vice president, global nutrition, Abbott.

According to the company the state-of-the-art nutrition manufacturing facility employs more than 400 people and is Abbott's third manufacturing site in India, with two others at Baddi, in Himachal Pradesh, and Verna, in Goa.

The nutrition manufacturing plant will be formally inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel Oct 16.
