Mangalore, Oct 18: EpITome-2006, the IT festival conducted by ELIXIR, the IT Association of AICS, St Aloysius College was inaugurated by N V Hegde, Chairman, NITTE Group of Educational Institutions on October 18 Oct. 

Fr Francis Serrao, the Rector, St Aloysius College Institutions presided over the function.

Fr Denzil Lobo, Director of AICS and Santhosh Rebello, staff coordinator, Albert Angel, the student coordinator and Alwyn Braganza were present.

Hegde, in his inaugural speech congratulated the students for organizing such an event to bring out the best in the students of Information Technology. He also opined that the MCA programme should be very competitive and prepare excellent professional for the Industry. He mentioned that our software professional will face stiff competition in the face of changing environment when China and other developing countries are also getting ready to prepare competent professionals in this field.

Fr Francis Serrao, in his presidential address remarked that education does not happen only in the fore walls of a classroom, but it has to be comprehensive in order to prepare young men and women who are competent, conscientious and committed citizens.
 
Fr Denzil Lobo stressed the need of team work, which would eventually make one a successful leader. He said that every student needs have that fire within them in order to excel and be an achiever.

Albert welcomed the gathering and Santhosh Rebello highlighted the features of the IT Event fest. Sahana Alva proposed the vote of thanks.

For the next two days there will be various events like Samanvitha -the Best Team, Medhavi- contest in software engineering, Mayajala- Web Designing, Chanakya -the Best Manager, Dheeman- the Best Executive and Paribhaasha -the contest in coding.  

The grand finale will take place on October 19 at 5.30 pm. Prof Rio D’Souza, HOD, Computer Science, St Joseph’s Engineering College and Fr Leo D’Souza, Director, Lab for Advanced Research, St Aloysius College will preside over the function.
