Udupi, Oct 18: Three persons, accused in the sensational Alevoor Prabhakar Acharya murder that took place in the year 2001, have now been acquitted by district sessions court. With this the probe into the sensational murder that shook the entire city has almost come to standstill.

Poona Chotu alias Venkat, Kasargod Jayanand Ganiga and Krishna were acquitted by the sessions judge on the grounds of lack of witnesses.  As known, Alevoor Prabhakar Acharya, a well-known gold merchant of the city was killed in 2001. 

Though three of the four accused were arrested in the later days, however, another accused, Vishwanath Shetty, who is said to be the linchpin is still at large.
