Imran Khan demands probe into Multan stampede

Islamabad, Oct 13 (IANS): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan has demanded a judicial probe into the stampede in Multan, media reported Monday.

At least seven people were killed and 40 injured last Friday in a stampede at a PTI gathering in Multan's Qasim Bagh stadium, The Nation reported.

The incident occurred after Imran Khan left the venue.

After a visit to the homes of the dead, he added that his party has also called a core committee meeting to launch an internal investigation into the incident.

Imran Khan said the people entered the stadium from one door and found it locked on their return.

He demanded that the investigation should be held to identify who locked the gate.

He maintained that the power supply to all street lights outside the stadium were also suspended which contributed to it.

Imran Khan also added that the stage arrangements in the site were inadequate, therefore, he would personally supervise the stage arrangements in all upcoming events.

He regretted that police stood indifferent.

Imran Khan and Tahir-ul Qadri's Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) have been staging anti-government protests since Aug 15 seeking Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's resignation over alleged rigging in the 2013 general election.
