Bangalore, Oct 17: The Samuel family, of Mangalorean origin,  is anxiously waiting for the good news of the safety of their son, 29-year-old Shem Samuel, a merchant navy officer who is feared to be missing from the ship – Giant Step belonging to Mitsui OSK Lines.

There is still no information about his whereabouts for over a week after the ship broke apart in stormy weather outside Kashima port, 100 kms. from Tokyo on October 6. The shipliner was carrying iron ore from Australia.

Shem Samuel is a past student of Clarence school, Richards Town, Bangalore. He pursued his Mate and Master courses in Glasgow at University of Marine Technology and Nautical Sciences and joined the Merchant Navy at the age of 22.

His family, along with relatives and friends, is praying in the hope that their son is safe and will join the family soon.
