Royal jewels on auction in Saffronart sale


New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS): An exquisite Edwardian brooch with a 10.85 carat centre diamond, pink Banarasi minakari, and silverware are some of the finest jewels that will be auctioned by Saffronart in their 24-hour online sale beginning Oct 13, organisers said Friday.

The online auction of "Fine Jewels and Silver" include a polki diamond choker that belongs to Ahmedabad's foremost businessman and philanthropist Mangaldas Girdhardas and is estimated between $10,000 -$13,335; a 16.33 gm emerald-cut diamond flanked by full-cut diamonds in a floral design on the either side belonging to a Parsi family and is estimated between $91,670-$125,000 and a gold necklace dating 1940s and priced between $4,585 to $6,250.

"We are showcasing the finest handpicked jewellery and silver highlighting India's rich traditions, handed down through the generations," said Minal Vazirani, president, Saffronart, in a statement.

Collectors can bid online www.saffronart.com in the auction which will close on the evening of Oct 14.
