Baggage thief caught at Ghaziabad station

Ghaziabad, Oct 10 (IANS): The Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested a baggage thief from Ghaziabad station.

Police said that during routine checking on the platforms, they found a man acting suspiciously on seeing a police team.

Suspecting him to be an anti-social element, the police nabbed him when he tried to flee.

During interrogation the man revealed his identity as Athar alias Atara alias Shamim, son of Akhlaque, a resident of Araria, Bihar, a GRP officer said.

Athar told police that he operated at Ghaziabad, Nizamuddin, New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations, and would steal the goods during early hours when passengers are fast asleep. The stolen goods were disposed of in Bihar and Nepal.
