Puttur, Oct 16: Just when the news about Kundapur region in the Udupi taluk to have been troubled by whirlwind, is still fresh in the minds of people, reports from Nelyadi and surrounding areas said that property and houses have been damaged owing to whirlwind in the region.

The sources said that whirlwind that swept through Udane, Shirady and Nelyadi areas causing damage to betelnut gardens and houses in the region.  The cowshed near the house of C Y George near Konaje has been damaged.  The total loss has been estimated at Rs 40,000.  Similarly the house of one Chennappa Gowda damaged after a tree collapsed and fell on the roof.

A toddy shop owned by Mahabala too has been damaged while a cow belonging to Valsamma died after being struck by lightning.  In several places, betelnut gardens too have been damaged.

The total loss is yet to be estimated.  But sources said that it may amount to several lacs.
