Mangalore, Oct 14: The Kadri police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder of Gafoor, a Musliar in mosque at Bijai-Anegundi on Friday October 13.
The arrested have been identified as Vijayprakash Kumpala and Padmaraj. The police sources said that the arrested had already confessed the crime. It is said that they had killed Gafoor in order to take revenge against the members of his community for having damaged Rajarajeshwari Temple at Kuttar on Friday October 6 evening. They were also enraged with the attack on women at Faisalnagar on the same day.
However, Gafoor had no connection whatsoever in this case. It is now sure that he became the target of communal clashes. He was stabbed by a group of miscreants while he was coming out from the madarasa at Anegundi on Friday night. Though he had been admitted to hospital, he had succumbed to the stab injuries in the early hours of Saturday October 7.
Gafoor was the son of K T Abubakar and Bifatuma, resident of Goonadka near Sampaje in Sullia taluk.
