18 detained in Oslo drug crackdown

Oslo, Oct 4 (IANS) At least 18 people were detained in anti-drug operations Oslo police launched earlier in the week, a media report said Friday.

Among those who were taken into custody included five members of a family, including the father (54), the mother (53) and the three adult sons, Xinhua quoted the Norwegian news agency NTB as saying in a report.

The mother and one of her sons were ordered by an Oslo district court Friday to remain in custody for two weeks and one month respectively.

Police also requested custody for the father and the two other sons in the same case. The court decision was not made public Friday night, said NTB.

The father and his three sons have been charged with serious drug crimes, which carry a maximum penalty of 10 years while the mother is charged with receiving stolen goods.

The identity of the five people were not disclosed.

The father and two sons were sentenced in 2007 for selling 85-90 kgs of hashish from the family's apartment in Oslo.

On Tuesday, police launched a major crackdown on marijuana sales in Olso's districts of Toyen, Kampen and Ensjoe.
