Bangalore, Oct 10: A diploma college lecturer was beaten up by the parents of a minor girl after he allegedly attempted to outrage her modesty in Harohalli, around 40 km from city, on Monday.

The villagers later staged a protest demanding action against the lecturer, Srinivas Gowda, who teaches sericulture at Government Junior College in Harohalli.

According to the police, Srinivas had been harassing the girl, who is a diploma student, for the last one week.

As his repeated advances were rejected by the girl, Srinivas threatened that he would award her less marks in the practical examination and asked her to meet him in his chamber on Monday morning.

The girl informed her parents about this. Along with other villagers, they followed her into the college and waited outside Srinivas' room.

When he attempted to molest her, the girl's parents and villagers entered the room and thrashed him. They later handed him over to the Harohalli police.

As the news spread, the villagers staged a protest, demanding that he be suspended.

The Director of Collegiate Education was informed about the incident. The Harohalli police have registered a case.
