Washington, Sep 19 (IANS): A man shot dead his daughter and six grandchildren before shooting himself in the US state of Florida, a media report said Friday.
The man, identified as Don Charles Spirit, 51, called emergency services Thursday and told the operator that he was considering harming himself and others, but when police arrived at his house, his daughter and the grandchildren were already dead, Sky News reported citing a police officer.
The age of the children ranged from three months to 10 years, the police officer said.
Spirit reportedly killed himself while police were at the house.
Last month, a nine-year-old girl accidentally killed her instructor when she lost control on an Uzi submachine gun during a shooting practice session.
In 2011, 11,000 people were killed in gun violence in the US, according to police.
