Bangalore, Sep 25: After shopping, how many times have you dropped in some money for the needy?

Today, many Bangaloreans prefer to carry a tag of being major spend thrifts and brand ambassadors rather than coming forward for charity.

They prefer to live life ‘king size’, spend lavishly on dressing and making fashion statements, but will not come forward and donate for the needy.

A recent survey conducted by the Animal Rights Fund denotes that people donate much more for the welfare of animals rather than for the needy humans. The donation included cash and kind.

Dilip Basna, a member of Animal Rights Fund told this website's newspaper that people do donate but not generously. It largely depends on how the donation box is positioned. “The placement of the donation box is important. How and in what manner is the charity need marketed is important.”

“Only the Jains donate generously, for various causes. Over Rs 25 lakh is donated daily by them. Out of which only 20 to 30 per cent reaches the needy. The rest is spent on the management and the maintenance,” he added.

Director of Samved Institute of Speech Hearing, Radhika Poovayya said that people in certain counters donate and to a certain extent the money does reach out to the needy people. But it is not as much as is donated by the people.

Another organisation working for the blind stated that there are so many needy people and there are more than sufficient giving hands. Still there are is shortage of money and it does not reach out.
