Mangalore, Sep 21: Alleging negligence by doctors and hospital staff of District Lady Goschen Hospital, which resulted in the death of a mother and her child, the general public gheraoed the hospital on Thursday.

Dayavathi, the 24-year-old daughter of Balakrishna Shetty and Gulabi of Uppala- Jodukatte, Kasargod was admitted to the hospital for delivery. According to sources she died due to the negligence of the hospital staff.

On Wednesday, Dayavati developed labour pains and subsequently died as she did not receive proper medical care, allege the family members. It is also alleged that she was not attended by the staff and thus had a still birth. Dayavati died at around 4 am on Thursday.

When the news reached the public a mob gathered which gheraoed the hospital. Over 300 people gathered in the hospital demanding for justice.

District in-charge minister Nagaraj Shetty, MLAs J Krishna Palemar and Yogish Bhat also rushed to the hospital and demanded an explanation from the hospital management.
