Mangalore, Sep 21: The academic excellence awards 2006 organised by the Islamic Academy of Education (IAE) were presented at a programme held at Yenopoya Medical and Dental College (YMDC) here on Wednesday September 20.

District in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty gave away the awards. A total of 127 students from Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts who excelled in SSLC, PUC and graduation were awarded.

Awards were also presented to ten students who had secured free management seats at YMDC.

The chief guest for the occasion was former vice-chancellor of Kannur and Calicut universities Dr M Abdul Rahiman.

The awards have been sponsored by Yenepoya Moideen Kunhi Educational and Charitable Trust.

Among those present were foundation director (academics) P C M Kunhi, Yenopoya Foundation chairman Y Mohammed Kunhi, IAE secretary Dr Akhter Hussain and advocate Abdul Rahim.
