Moodbidri, Sep 20: A fire tragedy in a beedi factory at Ladi near here accounted for loss worth 12 lac on Tuesday September 19 morning.
Ganapathi Home Industries behind Vijaya theatre in the Jyothi Nagar was gutted in the fire tragedy. The factory produces "Azad 51" brand bidis. The factory is owned by one Raman Bai Patel of Gujarat origin.
Fire broke out during the night shift while processing bidis. As soon as fire broke out, the remaining bidis were shifted to another building. More than 36 lac bidis, 400 bags of coal, lables, hardboards, furniture etc have been charred in the tragedy.
The total loss has been estimated at Rs 12 lac. Further loss was averted owing to immediate intervention by the fire personnel who extinguished fire after 3 hours of strenuous efforts.
A complaint has been registered by Moodbidri police in this regard.
