Japanese PM arrives in Sri Lanka


Colombo, Sep 7 (IANS): Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Sunday arrived in Sri Lanka.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa accompanied by government officials greeted the Japanese prime minister and his delegation at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Xinhua reported.

On his arrival, Abe launched a development project of the airport which is being funded by the Japanese government.

The Sri Lankan external affairs ministry said Japan has contributed significantly towards Sri Lanka's achievement and maintenance of social development.

In 2012, Japan disbursed $117 million as loan aid, $36 million as grant aid, and $29 million as technical cooperation.
