Mangalore, Sep 16: Four persons accused of theft in the SCDCC Bank Kulai branch has been convicted by the court.  However, the nature of punishment is expected to be declared on Saturday September 16.

Accused Shripati Acharya, Laxman, Yousuf and Vithal Shetty decamped with Rs 5.70 lac in cash and ornaments worth Rs 2 crore between November 23-25 night in the year 2002.  Among the accused while Shripati Acharya was the owner of the building in which bank operating, Laxman was the bank staff.

However, the accused had been caught by the then inspector of Highway Patrol Squad H C Narayana Maniyani.  T R Jagannath, the then inspector of Suratkal police station had filed the chargesheet in this regard.

Subsequently, the case had come for hearing in the local court.  But it took 4 long years for the court to convict the accused and penalize them.
