Puttur, Sep 15: Asgar Ali, a resident of Nekkiladi, who is the prime accused in the murder of Sirajuddin, a betelnut merchant of Uppinangady, has now been remanded to 15 days judicial custody by local court.

As reported earlier, Sirajuddin was hacked to death by Asgar Ali a couple of days ago while the former was walking home after closing down his shop.  Since some persons had seen Asga running in the night after hitting Sirajuddin with an axe, police had arrested him on the same night.  During in the interrogation he had confessed the crime too.  Though Asgar had stated that he had murdered his brother-in-law Sirajuddin owing to an old rivalry, there are stories making round in the area, that it was a well-planned murder.

The axe used in the murder had been purchased by Asgar sometime ago from a shop at Uppinangady and he had hidden the same in a bush near the place where he murdered Sirajuddin.  The axe was hidden a day earlier which clearly indicated that it was well-planned murder.

Only a detailed investigation by Uppinangady police could throw more light on the entire episode, said some locals while speaking to the correspondent.  Sirajuddin had a good reputation in the area as businessman and he had friends from all religions and walks of life.  He was the prime bread-winner of his family.  His death has come as a big shock not only to his family but even to his friends and even to the family of the accused Asgar.  Asgar's family shared a good rapport with Sirajuddin's family all these years.
