Putin, Poroshenko agree on ceasefire in Ukraine region

Kiev, Sep 3 (IANS): Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have reached an agreement for a permanent ceasefire in eastern Ukraine's Donbass region, Poroshenko's press office said in a statement Wednesday.

Russia has made no comment over the statement yet, Xinhua reported.

More than 2,600 civilians and combatants have been killed and more than a million people have fled their homes since fighting between pro-Russian separatists and the army erupted in eastern Ukraine in April.
