India can scale new heights with innovations, better standards: Nadir Godrej

New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS): With better chemical products and innovations, coupled with new consumption standards, India can reach new heights, Nadir Godrej, managing director, Godrej Industries said here Tuesday.

“And the progress of our nation, depends upon this innovation. With better products in our sights, now India can reach new heights. New standards can pave the way,” he said in his inaugural address at the 'Chemistry Everywhere' seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry.

“But ideally we would like to see, good standards that the users like,” Godrej said.

With rise in consumption, there also arises a need for consumption standards which are the norms that define which chemicals to use and in what quantity these should be used in products.

Godrej said people would like to see good standards that will benefit the society. He said by improving safety and efficiency, one can contribute environmentally as well.

The aim of laying these norms is to ensure consumer safety, product quality and regulatory compliance. These have multiple benefits like environment protection, consumer health and safety, cost efficiency and energy efficiency which were discussed in the seminar with core emphasis on safety.

“The government is very open to industry participation on standards,” Parminder Bajaj, chief of standardization, Bureau of Indian Standards said.
