RSS calls Kerala shutdown to protest leader's murder

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 1 (IANS): The RSS' Kerala unit called for a dawn to dusk, state wide shutdown Tuesday to protest the killing of its leader in Kannur.

Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh leader K.T. Manoj was Monday morning attacked by unknown assailants with bombs as he was going in a vehicle in Kathiroor in Kannur district and then then run through with swords, according to the local police.

Soon after the murder took place, the RSS had called for a shutdown in Kannur district, but by evening, decided to extend it throughout the state.

Kannur district for long has seen clashes between activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party/ RSS and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M). Police are on the lookout for a few CPI-M activists alleged to be behind the murder of Manoj.
