Kundapur, Sep 12: At last the protests and agitations led by Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat with the help of students and local organizations have yielded result.  As promised in the last week, the lorry owners’ association has established a weigh bridge at Shiroor near Byndoor here on Monday September 11.

The newly-established weigh bridge was inaugurated by Byndoor in-charge tahashildar Sridhar on Monday.  Revenue inspector Prabhakar Sharma was also present on the occasion along with weigh bridge experts.

With this one of the long-pending issues of ore-laden lorries has temporarily been solved.  However, the weigh bridge too had its share of controversies on the very first day.  Though Rs 20 each was charged for the lorries which came to the weigh bridge, no receit was issued.  Accordingly some of the lorry drivers protested this and even had heated arguments with staff at the weigh bridge.
