Ceasefire violations provocative, says Jaitley

New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS): Defence Minister Arun Jaitley Saturday termed as "provocative" the ceasefire violations by Pakistan and said the Indian Army was "alert" and responding to every situation.

"Incursions at the border, both at the LoC (Line of Control) and the international border, are extremely serious and provocative," Jaitley told the media here.

"The army is fully alert and responding to every situation."

Jaitley said these developments were creating an environment not conducive to bilateral ties.

"This is creating an environment which is not conducive to relations of the two countries," he said.

The defence minister said India was hopeful that the ceasefire violations by Pakistan would abate after meetings between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO).

"But for the incident where a jawan was killed, after the discussions of the DGMOs, we were hopeful that things would be better," Jaitley said.

A soldier was killed and another injured Saturday in an ongoing operation against separatist guerrillas near the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.
