Delhi policeman critical after suicide attempt

New Delhi, Aug 29 (IANS): A Delhi Police constable is in a critical condition in a Delhi hospital after jumping off a flyover in a bid to commit suicide, police said Friday.

Anil, posted in east Delhi's Khajuri Khas police station, jumped off the Yamuna Bazar flyover near Kashmere Gate in north Delhi Wednesday evening.

Eyewitnesses told the police he was in an auto-rickshaw with two friends, including a woman, just prior to the incident.

"The auto-rickshaw which they were in had just ascended the flyover when Anil asked the driver to stop. He alighted from the auto, waited for a second at the iron boundary and jumped," said a police official.

Anil's friends called the police control room following the incident.

A PCR rushed him to the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

"As Anil is not fit for statement, we are yet to ascertain the reason behind his suicide attempt," said a police official.
