Mangalore, Sep 9: A person of Bangalore origin is said to have cheated an Andhraite on visit here to the tune of Rs 12.9 lac on the pretext of securing his daughter a medical seat. The incident occurred in the city on Thursday September 7.

While the fraudster is identified as Prashanth from Bangalore, the duped person is one Chandrashekhar of Andhra Pradesh.  The former had published an advertisement in a Andhra Pradesh newspaper that he would help in getting medical as well as engineering seats in prestigious colleges in Karnataka.  Accordingly, Chandrashekhar had called Prashanth over the phone and had enquired the possibilities of his daughter getting medical seat.  Prashanth in turn had promised Chandrashekhar that he would get the medical seat.  So Chandrashekhar had come to Bangalore and had struck a deal with Prashanth in this regard.

At last it was decided to get a medical seat herein the city.  So Chandrashekhar and his two other friends had come down to the city on Tuesday September 5.  Prashanth too had come down for the same purpose.  On Thursday, he took them to AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and made them to wait outside the principal's chamber.  Meanwhile he went into the chamber to talk to the principal. Later, it turned out that he had not met the principal at all.

Yet, when he came out from the principal's chamber, he said that medical seat had been confirmed against a required payment for Rs 12 lac.  Chandrashekhar gave him Rs 12 lac which he took once again to the principal's chamber.  He came out after a while and said that he needed another Rs 9,000.  So Chandrashekhar went to an ATM, drew the money and gave it Prashanth.  After receiving Rs 9,000, Prashanth once again went in while others waited outside.  However, he failed to show up thereafter.

It was only then that they came to know that they were cheated by Prashanth.  Chandrashekhar immediately lodged a complaint with the Kadri police who are now investigating the case.
