Puttur, Sep 9: Suresh, a resident of Haleneranki village here who had drowned in Gundya River while trying to cross Hosmath Bridge in a lorry on August 15 was found dead in a bush in the river at Nadoli on Friday September 8 afternoon.  However, the body of another victim, Sandeep is yet to be traced.

As reported earlier in these columns Suresh, Sandeep, lorry driver Manjunath and cleaner Umesh had been washed out while trying to cross the submerged Hosmath Bridge on August 15.  While Manjunath and Umesh's bodies were found at Nadoli, four days after the tragedy, Suresh and Sandeep's bodies had not been found.  Though search operations by police, fire brigade personnel and local expert swimmers were on for some days, they were called off after a few days.  Meanwhile news was spread in the region that both of them had managed to swim and reach safe destination.  However, now that Suresh's body has been found, all this news is put to rest.

Suresh's body was almost in the form of skeleton and was identified on the basis of the blue trouser he wore and the rakhi which was in his hand.  His body was found while local swimmers were trying to trace Shridha, a college girl who had jumped into the river on Thursday September 7.

College Girl Commits Suicide

In another tragedy at Hosmath Bridge, Shridha, a student of Ramakunjeshwar College here, ended her life by jumping into the river on Thursday September 7 evening.  She had failed in one subject in the recently-concluded exams.  Disturbed by this, she is said to have committed suicide.  Her father Kamalaksha Rai is the president of the Parent-Teacher Association of other college.  So she took it very seriously that her failure in one subject was an insult to her father.

After the college on Thursday, she came to Hosmath Bridge, took off her earrings, gold bangels, and kept them in her college back which she kept on the bridge.  Thereafter she jumped into the river.  Search operations are still on to trace Shridha.
